Six jobs, six honest accounts, collected the way we would collect yours: from the customer, after the work was done, without us touching the wording.
Our upstairs bathroom started coming through the kitchen ceiling on a Sunday. Someone answered on the second ring, talked my husband through the shut-off, and had a van here inside two hours. The repair was one neat square of drywall, not the demolition I had pictured.
Third company to look at the same drain. First one to put a camera down it and show me the roots instead of just telling me about them. They cleared it, sent me the video, and quoted the actual repair without the theatrics.
I expected to be told I needed a new water heater. Instead I got a new thermostat, a flush and a note that the tank has maybe four years left in it. That is the first time a trade has ever talked me out of spending money.
Whole-house repipe over four days with two kids at home. They told us exactly which rooms and which days, we had water every single night, and the drywall was patched before they left. I have had painters make more mess.
The quote was the invoice. Same number. I know that should not be remarkable but after the last two contractors I dealt with, it genuinely was.
They wore covers over their boots without being asked, laid a runner across the hallway, and vacuumed the bathroom before they left. My mother would have approved, and she approved of almost nothing.
